Are you looking for the best college in Nepal to study engineering? If yes, then you are at the right place. In this article, we have listed the Top 10 Best Engineering Colleges in Nepal.
There are more than 50 colleges in Nepal that offer engineering courses. These colleges are affiliated with universities like Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, Purbanchal University, Pokhara University, Mid-Western University, and Far-Western University. To get admitted to any college, you have to pass the entrance exam conducted by their respective universities.
One of the significant factors when choosing a college has to be fee structure as well as location. However, we have selected the colleges depending on their education quality without taking fee structure as a reference in this list. You also have to be aware of the previous results of the college. Let’s have a look at the list of Top 10 Engineering Colleges in Nepal with a small overview.
Not every student from a science background can study Engineering. There are a few criteria to meet for admission to Engineering in any college affiliated with Tribhuvan University. Here is the list:
Before starting, I would like to say this is not a rank-wise college list.
The best engineering college in Nepal is thePulchowk Campus, also known as Pulchowk Engineering Campus. It is one of the five constituent campuses of the Tribhuvan University, Institute of Engineering in Nepal. This is the Institute of Engineering’s (IOE) main campus, which is located in the Lalitpur metropolitan area. Programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees are available on campus.
For the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degrees, IOE conducts an entrance exam each year. Students who want to study engineering or architecture from all around Nepal take this exam, and only those who perform well are given the opportunity to study at the Pulchowk Campus. From around 15,000 applicants, the campus only accepts 576 students.
The second college in our list of Top 10 Engineering Colleges in Nepal isThapathali Campus, commonly known as Thapathali Engineering Campus which is located in Thapathali, Kathmandu. The campus, which is in the heart of Kathmandu, was built in 2023 B.S. to train middle-level engineers, and over time, it expanded its offerings to include bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
It is still Nepal’s second-most sought-after engineering campus after Pulchowk Campus, despite being 1.25 km from the country’s major campus.
It is a government college that is supported by the Nepalese government. Admission applications may only be submitted by students who have successfully completed an IOE entrance examination. Priority selection is used to admit students based on their IOE entrance exam results.
The admission rate is typically estimated at 2.88 percent because the campus only accepts 432 students out of over 15,000 applicants.
The next college on our list of top Engineering colleges in Nepal is theNepal Engineering College. It is also known as NEC, a not-for-profit social academic institution in 1994. A group of forward-thinking professionals and academicians from Nepal laid the groundwork for nec.
When they recognized the need for a facility to meet the nation’s technical education requirements in the fields of engineering and technology for quickening economic growth, reaching a larger group of Nepalese students, and making high-quality technical education available and affordable to the general public.
To get into this college you have to do a lot of hard work as this is one of the most competitive Engineering colleges in Nepal. You have to get excellent marks in the entrance exam to get on the merit list of this college. Since it is affiliated with Pokhara University, its entrance exam is conducted before the IOE entrance exam. So, you have less time to prepare for the entrance exam.
One of the four campuses that make up Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Engineering in Nepal is thePashchimanchal Campus, commonly known as the Western Region Campus (WRC). It is situated in the northern region of the colossally beautiful city of Pokhara.
It enjoys the heaven-like view of Machhapuchchhre and many other mountains in the Annapurna range as well as the constant roaring melody of the Seti River running nearby.
The campus is surrounded by numerous verdant hills, and the campus grounds themselves are a sight to behold. After Pulchowk Campus and Thapathali Campus, Pashchimanchal Campus is currently the third most sought-after engineering college in Nepal affiliated with TU.
With help from the World Bank and UNDP/ILO, the Pashchimanchal campus started operating in 1987. At first, the campus also provided technician courses in addition to diploma programs. The diploma stream was phased out by the Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering, and as a result, enrollment in this stream ceased after 2069 BS.
At the undergraduate level, it now offers engineering courses in 7 areas, while at the graduate level, it offers courses in three fields. So, without this college, our list of the top 10 engineering colleges in Nepal is incomplete.
Purwanchal Campus, formerly known as Eastern Region (ERC) Campus, is one of the top Engineering Colleges in Nepal. It is also one of the Tribhuwan University (TU) constituent campuses and one of the associate engineering campuses of the Institute of Engineering (IOE). It is a comprehensive, non-profit, autonomous institution that was the first higher education institution in Nepal to receive funding from the Nepalese government.
With only 336 students accepted out of more than 15000 applicants, it has an average acceptance rate of 2.24. The college is located in the eastern part of Nepal at Gangalal Marg, Tinkune, Dharan-8, Sunsari district.
Under the terms of a loan arrangement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), it was founded in Poush of 2034 BS (1976) and given the name Purwanchal Technical School by the Nepali government. Another agreement with the government of the United Kingdom (UK) was made in Shrawn, 2035 BS (1978), and the UK government provided technical help (UK).
The Tribhuvan University (TU) Institute of Engineering (IOE) officially organized the ERC, and all construction was finished in 2043 BS (1984).
TheGandaki College of Engineering and Science (GCES)is located in Lamachaur, Pokhara. It is also one of the top 10 Engineering colleges in Nepal. GCES was established in 1998 as an extension of with the support of the Gandaki Boarding School board and the United Mission to Nepal.
It is affiliated with Pokhara University, offers degrees in B.E. Software and B.E. Computer (just added), and follows the semester structure and examination policies of that institution. The Nepal Engineering Council accepted GCES as a permanent member in 2003.
It was established in 1998 and was formally launched in 1999. The college now offers degrees in Bachelor of Engineering (Software, Computer) and Masters of Science (Information System Engineering), all of which follow Pokhara University’s semester and examination systems. The GBS/GCES public education trust oversees the college, which is a non-profit organization controlled by Nepal’s Ministry of Education.
