Purwachal Campus formerly known as Eastern Region Campus (ERC) is one of the constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University (TU). It is one of the associate engineering campuses of the Institute of Engineering (IOE) which is a comprehensive, non-profit making, autonomous institution and pioneering institution of higher education level in Nepal funded by the government of Nepal.
The Purwanchal Engineering College is located in the eastern area of Nepal at Gangalal Marg, Tinkune, Dharan-8, Sunsari district. It covers 34-13-11.75 Bigahas in handy units, which is approximately 234,870.53 square meters. It is close to Charkose Jhadi (densely forested) in the north and placed at the Dharan Sub-metropolitan city’s bus entry gate.
The campus was founded in Paush, 2034 BS (1976), as part of a financing deal with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The government of the United Kingdom (UK) offered technical support in another agreement with the government of the United Kingdom (UK) held at Shrawn, 2035BS (1978). ERC was originally created as part of the Institute of Engineering (IOE) at Tribhuvan University (TU), and all building work was finished in 2043 BS (1984).
As stated in the loan and project agreements, the campus first began offering trade-level courses in the engineering disciplines of mechanical, electrical, and civil. Since 2043 BS (1984), there have been three-year diploma programs in mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering. Refrigeration and air-conditioning engineering programs began in 2052 BS and computer and electronics engineering programs in 2059 BS.
In an effort to further modernize, IOE/Purwanchal Campus established the first bachelor-level program in the nation—the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Agricultural Engineering—in 2057 BS (2000). From 2061 BS (2004) onward, another BE program in civil engineering was launched.
