Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor's degree in related subjects or B.Sc. Medical Lab Technology or BMLT or B.Sc. Laboratory Medicine, MBBS/BDS or its equivalent.
Registered in respective professional council
Candidates should score a minimum of 50% marks (Pass marks) in the Entrance Examination conducted by Medical Education Commission for being eligible to be on the merit list.

Eligible candidates should appear for the entrance exam conducted by IOM (It is conducted tentatively on the month of Bhadra according to Nepalese calendar), Exam section and the merit list will be published based on the marks secured in the entrance examination. The candidate selection and admission will then be done following the guidelines set by IOM (on merit basis and post-counseling sessions held by IOM).

Second Year (Thesis):

As part of the requirement, the candidate will have to undertake research work under the guidance of the faculty and write a thesis. Dissertation work should preferably be completed and submitted six months ahead of the anticipated date of MD final examination. The candidate will not be allowed to sit for final examination unless the thesis has been accepted.

More About This Program

The Department of Psychiatry & Mental Health of Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine, established the MD psychiatry programme in 1977. Tribhuvan University will issue the Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Psychiatry degree to individuals who pass the test.

Self-manage all forms of mental health issues.
Diagnose mental health problems by gathering information from patients and family, doing a physical examination, and utilizing available diagnostic procedures and equipment.
Demonstrate appropriate knowledge, abilities, and attitudes for the development of mental health services.
Arranges and/or conducts appropriate in-service training for hospital and community health personnel at all levels on mental health issues.
Independently and efficiently planned mental health services for a certain geographical area or group of people.
Demonstrate understanding of HMG Nepal's healthcare objectives and operate consistently with them.
Lead a multidisciplinary team of related specialists.
Maintain internationally recognized personal and professional standards.
