To be eligible for admission into the MSIISE program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Program entry requirements
In order to be eligible for admission for M.Sc. Mechanical Systems Design and Engineering (MS-MSDE), a candidate must have:
i. Bachelors' degree from a 4-year engineering program in Mechanical, Industrial, Aeronautical, and Automobile Engineering, or equivalent, from Tribhuvan University and other recognized universities as well as degree equivalent to any of the aforementioned branches of engineering.
ii. Secure at least a minimum score as prescribed by the faculty board in the admission test conducted by the Institute of Engineering.
Entrance examination
The nature of entrance examination will be decided by the Entrance Examination Board of the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University.
Selection
Candidate fulfilling the program entry requirements will be selected for admission on the basis of merit based on entrance examination.
Note: Equivalence means the same kind of degree obtained from institutes other than TU and recognized by TU as the equivalent to the degree provided by TU in the same discipline.

Thapathali Campus, originally known as Technical Training Institute (TTI), was renamed and incorporated into Tribhuvan University (T.U.) in 1973 AD as the Institute of Engineering. The campus started a two-year proficiency certificate level (PCL) course for SLC students in 1977 AD. It began offering three-year diploma programs in Mechanical Engineering and Automobile Engineering in 1987 AD.
Diploma programs in Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering were added in 2002 AD. The Institute of Engineering (IOE) strategy resulted in the establishment of Bachelor’s programs in 2006 AD, Civil Engineering in 2066 BS, Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2067 BS, and Mechanical Engineering in 2068 BS. New diploma course enrollments halted in 2014 AD.
The campus grew even further in 2015 AD, with the addition of a Bachelor’s in Architecture and an M.Sc. in Earthquake Engineering, a Bachelor’s in Automobile Engineering in 2016, and an M.Sc. in Mechanical Design & Manufacturing in 2017. The M.Sc. in Informatics and Intelligent Systems Engineering, which will be offered in the evening session in 2020 AD, is the most recent addition.
