The candidate must be have passed MBBS or its equivalent from any recognized university and must have complete compulsory rotating internship.
Must have appropriate registration with the Nepal Medical Council.
Must have a post internship working experience of one year in a recognized hospital.
Evaluation Scheme
The evaluation of postgraduate students in surgery will be separated into three stages.
Phase One:
Evaluate fundamental medical science article. The internal assessment will account for 20% of the overall mark.
Phase 2
During the second year of the residency curriculum, students will do research for their thesis. At the end of the second year, the guide will endorse his or her thesis. and submit it to the testing division before taking the final MS exam. The student will defend and receive approval for his or her thesis in the first half of the third year.
Phase 3
The basic medical science paper test will be held in Phase three, and it will include both theory and practice. The main emphasis will be on the OSCE form of evaluation in the practical test. The pass grade will be 50% in both theory and practice.
At the end of the third year, a final examination will be administered that will include theory, oral, and practical components. The internal assessment accounts for 20% of the total marks. The theory paper will include multiple-choice questions, short answers, and a few essay-type questions. The oral and practical examinations will be more similar to OSCEs.

This course is intended to assist MS students gain appropriate knowledge and abilities in general surgery and surgical specialties. Students should be able to identify and properly manage a wide range of surgical issues caused by trauma or surgical illnesses.
An MS graduate is expected to have a broad understanding of the relevant basic sciences underlying surgical practice, a thorough understanding of normal anatomy and physiology, the ability to identify and understand abnormal pathology, and an understanding of the scientific basis of investigations and treatment. The graduate will learn how to develop effective interpersonal relationships with patients, their families, staff, and the community.
