The private, community-focused Nepal College of Development Studies (NCDS) is situated in Shankhamul, Kathmandu. The college was founded in 2007 AD with the goal of advancing social work and development-oriented education in Nepal. It is associated with Tribhuvan University (TU). Its methodology blends classroom instruction with hands-on community involvement, fieldwork, internships, and rural camps.
The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Rural Development (BASWRD), also known as the BA in Rural Development (BRD) under TU, is the main program offered by NCDS. Social work, rural development, research, governance, economics, and community studies are all integrated into the four-year curriculum. Through supervised fieldwork and community-based activities, students have real-world experience that prepares them for positions in social services, community development, NGOs, and development organisations.
