Candidates for the MA in Population Studies program must hold a bachelor's degree in any field approved by Tribhuvan University. Students must pass an admission exam in order to be accepted.
Situated on the University Campus in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Tribhuvan University (TU) has a constituent academic department called the Central Department of Population Studies (CDPS). The TU Council founded the department in 1988, and it started offering regular academic programs in 1990.
The department has made substantial contributions to development planning, migration studies, population policy, demography research, and related fields in Nepal. Research, fieldwork, workshops, seminars, computer-based practice, and hands-on activities are all incorporated into its academic approach. In order to prepare graduates for positions in research, government agencies, development organisations, academia, and policy analysis, CDPS currently provides Master's in Population Studies (MPS/MA), MPhil in Population Studies, and PhD in Population Studies.
