Located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, the Central Department of Education (CDED) is a component academic department of Tribhuvan University (TU), which is part of the Faculty of Education. The College of Education was founded on September 9, 1956, to train teachers for Nepal, marking the beginning of its institutional history. Later, in 1971, it changed its name to the Institute of Education, and in 1982, it became the Faculty of Education.
Educational foundations, English and Nepali education, mathematics, science, health, physical education, ICT, curriculum and assessment, educational planning and management, and special needs education are just a few of the many fields in which CDED offers advanced education and research. With a focus on teacher training, educational research, curriculum development, and educational policy, it offers M.Ed., MPhil, PhD, PGDE, and specialised education programs.
