Bir Hospital, the oldest hospital in Nepal, was established in 1889, marking the beginning of the country's hospital service history. Today, it offers general to tertiary treatment to its citizens. The first teaching hospital for dressers, compounders, and eventually nurses was Bir Hospital. The first medical school, the Civil Medical School, was founded in Bir Hospital in 1933 AD for the same cause. Since 1987, it has also served as the training facility for FRCS, MRCP, and MRCOG.
