The Master in Population, Gender and Development (MPGD) is a postgraduate program under the School of Development and Social Engineering (SDSE), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Pokhara University. Launched in 2004, it initially began as a Postgraduate Diploma and evolved into a full master’s program. It was established through a collaboration between Pokhara University, UNFPA, and the Government of Nepal to enhance the university’s capacity in teaching, research, and training, particularly in development studies with a focus on gender and population.
This interdisciplinary program is designed to address 21st-century challenges and aims to nurture leadership by preparing professionals, academics, and social entrepreneurs who work in areas concerning population, gender, and development.
The MPGD program aims to produce highly skilled professionals, academicians, and entrepreneurs who possess both theoretical understanding and practical skills in the areas of Population, Gender, and Development. The curriculum focuses on equipping students with:

Technical and research skills
A foundational understanding of the social dynamics of population and gender from a development perspective
The program integrates both academic theory and hands-on research to prepare students for real-world challenges in development and policy sectors.
