Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies

• Successfully completed a twelve-year education, or its equivalent, from a university, board, or other organization recognized by Tribhuvan University.
• Achieved at least second division in the 10+2, PCL, or comparable program, with a minimum D grade in each subject in grades 11 and 12 and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 1.80 or greater; and
• Followed all application requirements.

BMS is a 4 year (8 semester) course which comprises of foundation courses of management studies, social science, pure science, mountaineering and tourism core courses, elective and project works culminating in thesis writing representing both sectors of management, mountain tourism and mountaineering. Thus, BMS is not just about climbing but is a complete integration of diverse mountain related studies.

Leading professors of different disciplines and faculties have designed the curricula of Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies (BMS):• It is based on the wisdom of the past (history of mountain tourism and mountaineering) with an eye for the future.
• It aims to prepare graduates having a set of skills, attributes and values that equip them to become constructive and contributing leaders in an increasingly globalized field of mountain and mountaineering tourism.

The academy is on the verge of running Master of Adventure Tourism Studies (MATS).
The required curricula designing and approach to the concerned universities have been completed and the program is about to be launched.

The syllabi for BMS and MATS have thus been developed following international standards in a way to cater the needs of rapidly developing tourism and hospitality industry across the globe. This academic program primarily follows the three-pronged approaches: Professional, Vocational and Entrepreneurial. It further:
• Tries to develop core competencies, subject specific, interdisciplinary and methodological competencies comprising with practical and applied competencies (prognosis and praxis);
• Focuses on inculcating ethics, stewardship, knowledge, pro mutuality between the stakeholders (TEFI).

Scholarship

The students can apply for up to 25% scholarship in tuition fees who must be:

1. the child of a mountain climber who has lost his/her life or has been physically impaired while mountain climbing.

2. the child of the mountain climber who has successfully summited 8000-meter peaks for more than 5 times including Mount Everest (8848m).

3. the child of a certified and licensed IFMGA Guide who has a minimum work experience of 7 years.

4. poor and needy students as per TU’s rules and regulations.
   Scholarships are offered to four (2 male & 2 female) eligible students including 1 male and 1 female from Garma, Solukhumbu -1.
