A student holding a Bachelor degree in any of the following subjects recognized by Tribhuvan University is considered eligible to apply for admission.
Anthropology; Sociology; Social Work; Nepalese History, Culture and Archaeology; Psychology; history; Home Science; Geography; Economics; and Political Science
Any discipline from faculty of education, management and law
Any discipline from institute of medicine, engineering, forestry, agriculture and animal science
An applicant seeking admission to M.A. Anthropology must appear in an Entrance Examination of one hour’s duration conducted by the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Tribhuvan University. The applicant who fails to appear in the Entrance Examination or to obtain a minimum qualifying score will not be given admission. Admission of the students will be based strictly on the merit list and on the enrollment capacity of the Central Department of Sociology/Campus.
A component academic department of Tribhuvan University (TU), the Central Department of Anthropology (CDA) is situated on the University Campus in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. Before the Central Department of Anthropology was founded as a separate department in 2015, anthropology was first taught through the joint Department of Sociology and Anthropology for over thirty years. It is part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS) and concentrates on anthropological education, research, and scholarly advancement.
Anthropology MA, MPhil, and PhD programs are offered by the department. Social and cultural anthropology, religion, kinship, gender, ethnicity, indigeneity, medical anthropology, development, migration, natural resource management, climate change, and current social challenges are among its academic and research focuses. In addition, the department organises training courses, conferences, seminars, research initiatives, and scholarly publications.
