One of Tribhuvan University's (TU) oldest departments is the Central Department of Nepalese History, Culture, and Archaeology (NeHCA), which is situated on the university campus in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. Originally founded as the agency of Culture in 1959, the agency changed its name to the Central Department of Nepalese History, Culture, and Archaeology in 1971.
Nepalese history, culture, archaeology, traditional art, architecture, museology, iconography, epigraphy, paleography, numismatics, and cultural tourism are the department's areas of expertise. It presently provides master's and doctoral programs under Tribhuvan University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with a focus on cultural studies, research, and heritage preservation.
