FWU provides stand-alone PhD programs in addition to integrated MPhil/PhD programs. If they fulfilll the academic requirements, students who have finished their MPhil coursework may apply for the PhD program.

A master's degree (ideally in education) from Far Western University or any other FWU-recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or second division overall is required of applicants. Additionally, candidates must show up for the interview and the written admission exam.

The PhD in Nepali is an advanced, research-oriented doctoral program focused on Nepali language, literature, linguistics, and cultural studies.
