MSc Mountain Environment and Development Studies

To apply for the M.Sc. Mountain Environment and Development Studies program, candidates must have completed a 4-year B.Sc. in Forestry or a B.Sc. in General Science with majors such as Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology, or Meteorology. Alternatively, candidates with degrees in B.Sc. Agriculture, B.Sc. Environmental Science, B.Sc. Environmental Management, or B.E. in Civil, Agricultural, or Environmental Engineering from Tribhuvan University—or a university recognized by it—are eligible, provided they have secured a minimum aggregate of 50%.

Applicants from foreign institutions who have completed undergraduate programs in English in the aforementioned disciplines are also eligible for admission. Additionally, a quota is reserved for permanent staff members of the Institute of Forestry who hold a qualifying B.Sc. degree in one of the approved subjects. Senior staff members receive admission priority. All applicants must take and pass the entrance examination conducted by the Institute of Forestry to qualify for the program.

Entrance Examination

All Nepalese applicants must sit for the entrance exam administered by the Institute of Forestry. The exam will consist of objective-type questions and cover general knowledge, forestry topics, and subject-specific content. The full score of the exam is 300, and candidates must score at least 40% (120 marks) to pass.

The final merit list will be calculated by combining 20% of the applicant's B.Sc. score with 80% of their entrance exam score. For foreign applicants, the selection will be based solely on their undergraduate academic performance. If there are any unfilled seats in the staff or foreign applicant quotas, these will be reassigned to the full-fee paying category.
