Far-Western University (FWU) has introduced an interdisciplinary MPhil/PhD program in response to the cross-disciplinary nature of inquiry and discovery. The program will support students in gaining knowledge and abilities for independent investigation on the core problems and experiences of human civilization through frequent and rigorous coursework that spans traditional disciplines. The program's goal is to give self-directed students academic instruction at the highest level of scholarship, which will enhance their capacity to combine theories and concepts from many disciplines employing methodologies, approaches, ethical guidelines, and resources to conduct research.

A master's degree (ideally in education) from Far Western University or any other FWU-recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or second division overall is required of applicants. Additionally, candidates must show up for the interview and the written admission exam.

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Nepali is an advanced, research-oriented postgraduate program focused on Nepali language, literature, literary theory, linguistics, and cultural studies. The program develops advanced critical thinking and research skills through specialized coursework, research methodology, interdisciplinary study, and dissertation work. Far-Western University offers an MPhil/PhD pathway in Nepali, while Tribhuvan University also offers an MPhil in Nepali.
