The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree program consists of 65 credit hours, four semesters (2 years) of academic work, and is designed to equip students to work as professional counselors in a range of settings, including the community. The mandatory core of theory and professional issue coursework is combined with practicum/fieldwork/internships to merge the academic and practical parts of counselor education. The training includes both academic understanding and practical work.
Students have the opportunity to enhance their counseling experiences and professional aspirations by completing at least 600 hours of internship/practical experience. Students will be monitored throughout the semester and during field activities. The course trains counselors to work in a variety of settings with individuals, families, and groups/communities, assessing, designing, and implementing specialized counseling techniques.
